The Agave ovatifolia, commonly known as the Whale’s Tongue Agave, is a stunning succulent prized for its broad, cupped blue-gray leaves that form a beautifully symmetrical rosette. Each leaf has smooth edges with subtle teeth and a dark terminal spine, giving the plant a bold yet elegant appearance. Mature plants can reach up to 4–6 feet tall and 6–8 feet wide, making it a true statement piece in any landscape or container garden. This agave thrives in full sun and well-draining soil, requiring very little water once established, perfect for drought-tolerant or desert-style gardens. It typically blooms once in its lifetime after many years, producing a tall stalk with yellow-green flowers that attract hummingbirds and pollinators. Exceptionally hardy and low-maintenance, it tolerates heat, cold, and even occasional frost. USDA Hardiness Zones 7–10.
