Uncarina roeoesliana is a captivating caudiciform shrub native to Madagascar, featuring an irregular, swollen caudex topped with slender branches and deciduous, softly pubescent green leaves that display varied shapes from lobed to cordate. When mature, it reaches between 5–7 ft (1.5–2 m) tall with a spreading crown and a sculptural, bonsai‑like base of up to ~14 cm in diameter. In spring and summer it bears showy yellow, trumpet‑shaped flowers with a green throat, followed by distinctive hooked, barbed fruit pods. This plant thrives in full sun to light shade, prefers richly gritty, well‑draining soil, and requires regular deep watering during its active growth, while remaining nearly dry in winter. Frost‑sensitive (USDA zones 10–11), it excels in warm, arid garden settings, containers, or collections of caudiciform and pachycaul succulents.
