Sedum frutescens is a compact, shrubby succulent known for its fleshy, rounded green leaves that grow densely along woody stems, creating a tidy and attractive appearance ideal for containers or rock gardens. This drought-tolerant plant typically reaches about 12 to 24 inches tall and can spread up to 18 to 24 inches wide, forming a low, bushy mound over time. It thrives in full sun to partial shade, with the best coloration and growth occurring in bright, direct light. Like most sedums, it prefers well-draining soil and requires very little water once established, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping or low-maintenance gardens. During the warmer months, Sedum frutescens may produce small, star-shaped flowers that are usually white to pale yellow, adding seasonal visual interest. It performs best in dry, warm climates and is sensitive to overwatering or prolonged frost. Ideal growing conditions include sandy or gritty soil and infrequent watering schedules. USDA Hardiness Zones: 9–11.
