The Mustache Aloe (Aloe suprafoliata), also known as Book Aloe, is a striking succulent prized for its unique leaf arrangement—young plants display flat, blue-green leaves stacked like the pages of an open book, transitioning into a symmetrical rosette as they mature. Its leaves are edged with cinnamon to red margins and deep brown teeth, creating a bold contrast against the cool-toned foliage. This aloe typically grows 1 to 2 feet tall and can spread up to 36 inches wide, making it an eye-catching addition to any collection. Thriving in full sun to partial shade, it prefers well-draining soil and infrequent watering, making it ideal for drought-tolerant gardens or indoor containers. To prevent sunburn, acclimate the plant gradually to brighter light when moving outdoors. While blooming is rare in cultivation, mature specimens may produce tall spikes of reddish-pink flowers in late winter or early spring. Best suited for USDA Hardiness Zones 9b through 11, it should be protected from frost or overwintered indoors in cooler climates.
