Ipomoea platensis is a rare, caudiciform morning glory prized for its swollen, woody base (caudex) and vining, deciduous stems with attractive green leaves. The thickened caudex can grow into an eye-catching, sculptural form over time, while the vines produce beautiful purple, funnel-shaped flowers during the growing season. In cultivation, the caudex can reach up to 12 inches wide, with vines stretching several feet when actively growing. This plant loves full sun to partial shade, requires excellent drainage, and prefers infrequent deep watering during its growing period. It naturally goes dormant in winter, dropping its leaves while the caudex remains an architectural focal point. Ipomoea platensis is ideal for collectors of caudiciforms and bonsai-style succulent plants. Perfect for pots, patio displays, or indoor growers with bright light.
