Leucadendron ‘Hawaii Magic’, also known as the Royal Hawaiian Conebush, is a compact evergreen shrub with fiery red stems carrying small grey‑green leaves that intensify into deep plum and burgundy tones from mid‑winter through spring. In optimal conditions it typically grows to 3–4 ft (90–120 cm) tall and approximately 4–5 ft (120–150 cm) wide, forming a tidy, dense mound ideal for containers and borders. Yellow, cone‑like blooms appear at stem tips in spring, adding seasonal interest among vibrant foliage. This cultivar thrives in full sun, prefers lean, acidic, well‑draining sandy to loamy soil, and requires low water once established, though moderate moisture helps during the first growing season. Hardy to USDA zones 9a–11, it tolerates occasional light frost down to about 20 °F (−6 °C). As with others in the Proteaceae, it is best to avoid using any Phosphorus fertilizer. Minimal pruning is needed, and it’s excellent as a container specimen, cut‑flower source, hedge or accent plant in xeriscape and modern landscapes.
