Ferocactus glaucescens, known as the glaucous barrel cactus, is a captivating globular cactus featuring a blue-green stem adorned with thick, whitish-gray to yellow spines evenly distributed along its pronounced ribs. As it matures, this species can reach up to 2 feet in height and width, often developing multiple heads that form impressive mounds. In the spring and through late summer, it produces funnel-shaped yellow flowers near the top of the plant, followed by white, rounded fruit. Thriving in full sun and requiring minimal water, this drought-tolerant cactus prefers well-draining soil and benefits from being kept dry during winter months. It is suitable for USDA Hardiness Zones 9 through 11.
