The Ensete ventricosum ‘Maurelii’, also known as the Red Abyssinian Banana, is a striking ornamental plant with large, paddle-shaped leaves streaked in bold shades of green, burgundy, and deep red that add a tropical flair to any garden or patio. This fast-growing plant can reach an impressive 8–12 feet tall and 6–8 feet wide, making it a dramatic centerpiece in landscapes or large containers. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers regular watering with rich, well-draining soil, though it is not as drought tolerant as true desert plants. While grown primarily for its foliage, mature plants may eventually produce tall flower stalks with cream to yellow blooms, though this is rare in cultivation. Upon receiving your plants, make sure to remove them from their packaging immediately, repot them using dry soil, and provide ample sunlight. Water as needed, making sure to water again only when the soil is completely dry.
