Cleistocactus fieldianus is a striking columnar cactus native to the mountainous regions of Peru, known for its slender, upright stems adorned with 6 to 10 ribs and spiny areoles. This species produces vibrant dusky-red tubular flowers that emerge near the tips of its branches, adding a splash of color to any collection. Mature plants can reach heights of 6 to 20 feet (1.8 to 6 meters) and diameters of 6 to 8 cm, often forming dense clumps as they branch from the base . Thriving in full sun to partial shade, Cleistocactus fieldianus prefers well-draining soil and requires minimal watering—allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings—to prevent root rot . Hardy in USDA Zones 9a to 11, it tolerates temperatures down to 24°F (–4°C) when kept dry. Its low-maintenance nature and unique aesthetic make it a favorite among cactus enthusiasts and collectors alike.
