Cleistocactus fieldianus is a unique, columnar cactus known for its tall, slender green stems that are densely covered in short white spines. This fast-growing species can reach up to 3 feet tall and about 2 inches wide, often branching from the base to form clumps over time. It prefers full sun to partial shade and thrives in dry, well-draining soil with minimal watering, making it perfect for xeriscapes and container gardens. In the summer months, it produces stunning tubular red to reddish-orange flowers that protrude horizontally from the stems, attracting hummingbirds and other pollinators. Cleistocactus fieldianus is drought-tolerant and performs best when protected from frost and excess moisture. Suitable for USDA Hardiness Zones 9–11.
