The Chamaerops humilis, commonly known as the European Fan Palm, is a slow-growing, clumping palm with fan-shaped, deep green leaves that create a dense, textured appearance. It typically reaches 6–15 feet tall and 6–12 feet wide, forming multiple trunks that add architectural interest to any landscape. This hardy palm thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-draining soil, requiring minimal water once established. While it is primarily grown for its ornamental foliage, it can produce small, yellow flowers in late spring to early summer, followed by orange-brown fruits that attract wildlife. Its compact, multi-trunk habit makes it ideal for containers, patios, or Mediterranean-style gardens, and its drought tolerance allows it to flourish in hot, dry climates. Low-maintenance and resilient, the Chamaerops humilis is a versatile addition to both residential and commercial landscapes. USDA Hardiness Zones 8–11.
