Bruce’s Dragon is a striking cactus cultivar with knobbly, sculptural bluish-green stems and sparse honey-to-brown spines, showcasing the curious monstrose form of the trunk of this columnar species. It is able to develop into a tall, branching specimen—many related plants reach roughly 2-5 m (6-16 ft) in height under ideal conditions. Best grown in bright light or full sun with minimal regular water and a very well-draining cactus mix, it prefers warm, dry conditions and should be kept relatively dry in winter to avoid rot. This specimen thrives in USDA zones roughly 9–11 or indoors where sun is strong, and responds to occasional deep watering followed by thorough drying. It’s a bold accent plant for desert-style or succulent collections and rewards the patient grower with dramatic form.”

Care tips:

  • Plant in a gritty, fast-draining cactus or succulent soil mix (e.g., add coarse sand or pumice).

  • Give at least 6 hours of bright direct sunlight or an east/west exposure; gradually acclimate outdoor plants to full sun to avoid sunburn.

  • Water deeply when the substrate is fully dry, then allow it to dry out completely before watering again; reduce watering significantly in winter.

  • Protect from temperatures well below freezing; in cooler climates grow it in a pot and bring it inside or provide frost-free conditions.

  • Avoid high humidity and poorly ventilated spots, which can cause rot; ensure good airflow around the plant.

You will receive the exact plant pictured, it is a fully rooted plant. Shipping will be via USPS Priority Mail within the United States and its outlying territories ONLY.  We do not ship internationally.

All of our plants are shipped bare-root and without their original nursery pot.  This is done both to protect the plant and to reduce shipping expenses. We pack our products by hand and take great care to ensure they arrive at their final destination safely. Upon receiving your plants, make sure to remove them from their packaging immediately, repot them using dry soil, and provide ample sunlight.  Water as needed, making sure to water again only when the soil is completely dry. Succulents are very hardy and will rebound easily with proper care.
