Browningia hertlingiana—also called the “Blue Cereus”—is a majestic, tree-like columnar cactus featuring striking glaucous blue-green stems with dramatic gold-tipped spines. In its natural Peruvian habitat, it can grow impressively tall, reaching 5–8 meters with trunks up to 1 meter high and stems around 30 cm in diameter. It thrives under full, direct sun, which enhances its vivid blue coloration, and prefers rich, well-draining, gritty soil to prevent rot in humid conditions. Exceptionally drought-tolerant and adapted to arid, high-altitude climes, it also shows moderate frost hardiness down to about −5 °C (~23 °F) when kept dry. This Peruvian native is highly sought after by collectors because it is one of the few truly blue cacti. With minimal care and striking architectural presence, this slow-growing cactus brings dramatic height, texture, and exotic elegance to outdoor gardens, large containers, or statement plant collections.
