The Agave parryi var. truncata, commonly known as the Artichoke Agave, is a striking succulent with thick, truncated, steel-blue leaves that form a dense, symmetrical rosette, each leaf tipped with a stout terminal spine and lined with small marginal teeth. This agave can reach up to 2–3 feet tall and 3–5 feet wide, creating a bold, architectural presence in gardens, rockeries, or large containers. It thrives in full sun with well-draining soil and is highly drought-tolerant, requiring very little water once established. Mature plants may produce a flower spike up to 12 feet tall with yellow blooms, after which the main rosette typically dies, though offsets often continue to grow. Known for its hardiness and striking form, Agave parryi var. truncata is perfect for xeriscapes and collectors seeking low-maintenance, dramatic succulents. Best grown in USDA Hardiness Zones 7–10.
