The Agave bracteosa 'Mateo' is a striking succulent known for its narrow, soft green leaves that twist gracefully and lack the sharp spines common in other agaves, giving it a unique and approachable appearance. This slow-growing rosette typically reaches 12–18 inches in height and 24–30 inches in diameter, making it perfect for small gardens, rockeries, or container displays. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-draining soil with low water requirements, making it exceptionally drought-tolerant once established. While it rarely blooms in cultivation, when it does, it produces tall, branched flower stalks with creamy-white blossoms, usually in late summer to fall. Its compact size, striking leaf pattern, and low-maintenance nature make it ideal for desert landscapes, xeriscaping, or modern succulent arrangements. The 'Mateo' agave is not only visually captivating but also resilient, adding a sculptural element to any garden space. USDA Hardiness Zones 8–11.
