The Agave bovicornuta, commonly known as the Cowhorn Agave, is a rare and striking succulent recognized for its thick, blue-green leaves adorned with prominent curved reddish-brown spines along the margins, giving it a bold, sculptural appearance. This dramatic agave typically grows up to 2–3 feet tall and 3–4 feet wide, forming a compact yet imposing rosette that makes it a standout specimen in any garden or container display. It thrives in full sun with well-draining soil and requires very low water once established, making it highly suited for xeriscapes and drought-tolerant landscapes. Mature plants may produce a flower spike up to 10 feet tall, topped with greenish-yellow blooms, after which the rosette usually dies back but often produces offsets for continued growth. Its unique form, vibrant spines, and hardy nature make Agave bovicornuta a collector’s favorite and a striking addition to desert-themed or low-maintenance gardens. Best grown in USDA Hardiness Zones 8–11.
