The Agave americana 'Mediopicta Aurea' is a stunning variegated agave prized for its long, sword-shaped leaves with bold golden-yellow centers bordered by blue-green edges and tipped with sharp spines, creating a striking contrast in any landscape or container. This slow-growing succulent can eventually reach up to 4 feet tall and 6 feet wide, forming an impressive rosette that demands attention. It thrives in full sun and well-draining soil, with very low water needs, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping or drought-tolerant gardens. While primarily grown for its dramatic foliage, mature plants may eventually send up a towering flower stalk reaching 15–20 feet tall, topped with clusters of yellow-green blooms before the main rosette dies back, often producing offsets to continue growing. With its architectural form and vibrant coloration, this agave is both decorative and resilient. Best grown in USDA Hardiness Zones 9–11.
