The Aeonium arboreum 'Zwartkop', commonly known as the Black Rose Aeonium, is a dramatic succulent featuring large, glossy rosettes of deep burgundy to nearly black leaves that sit atop branching stems, creating a bold, sculptural look. This eye-catching plant can grow up to 3–4 feet tall and 2–3 feet wide, forming a striking presence in containers, borders, or succulent gardens. It thrives in full sun to partial shade, where its dark coloration becomes most intense, and requires low water with well-draining soil, making it ideal for drought-tolerant landscapes. In late winter to spring, mature plants may produce tall cone-shaped clusters of small, starry yellow flowers, adding seasonal contrast to its dark foliage. Easy to care for and visually stunning, it’s a favorite among collectors and designers alike. Best grown in USDA Hardiness Zones 9–11.
