Christmas Berry (Heteromeles arbutifolia), commonly known as Toyon, is a resilient evergreen shrub or small tree native to California, celebrated for its glossy, serrated dark green leaves and vibrant red berries that adorn the plant from late fall through winter . In spring and summer, it produces clusters of creamy white flowers, attracting pollinators and adding seasonal interest . Toyon typically grows 8 to 15 feet tall and wide, but under optimal conditions, it can reach up to 20 feet, making it ideal for hedges, privacy screens, or as a striking focal point in native and drought-tolerant landscapes . Thriving in full sun to partial shade, it prefers well-drained soils and exhibits excellent drought tolerance once established . Hardy in USDA Zones 8–11, Toyon is well-suited for coastal gardens and inland areas alike. Its deep root system aids in erosion control, and its berries provide a vital food source for birds and other wildlife during the winter months .

Please note that the plant may or may not be in bloom when purchased. You will receive a similar or better plant as the one pictured. These are fully rooted plants. Shipping will be via USPS Priority Mail within the United States and its outlying territories ONLY. We do not ship internationally.

All of our plants are shipped bare-root and without their original nursery pot. This is done both to protect the plant and to reduce shipping expenses. We pack our products by hand and take great care to ensure they arrive at their final destination safely. Upon receiving your plants, make sure to remove them from their packaging immediately, repot them using dry soil, and provide ample sunlight. Water as needed, making sure to water again only when the soil is completely dry.
