Native to eastern and southern Africa, Dietes iridioides (fortnight lily) is a rhizomatous evergreen perennial with attractive flowers resembling small Japanese irises. Each 3 inch wide waxy white bloom has 3 outer and 3 inner segments. The inner segments have yellow-orange blotches and orange marks at their base. Radiating from the bloom's center are 3 pale violet colored arms. The flowers last one day but are quickly replaced by new ones as each stalk carries an endless supply of buds. Flowering occurs in bloom bursts that seem to occur at 2 week intervals, hence the common name of Fortnight Lily. Grows best when planted in full sun or part shade in moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soils. Thrives with regular irrigation, but will perform satisfactorily in poor soil with infrequent watering once established. It is fairly drought tolerant and is reported to be moderately salt tolerant. Hardy in zones 8-11.

Please note that the plant may or may not be in bloom when purchased. You will receive a similar or better plant as the one pictured. These are fully rooted plants. Shipping will be via USPS Priority Mail within the United States and its outlying territories ONLY. We do not ship internationally.

All of our plants are shipped bare-root and without their original nursery pot. This is done both to protect the plant and to reduce shipping expenses. We pack our products by hand and take great care to ensure they arrive at their final destination safely. Upon receiving your plants, make sure to remove them from their packaging immediately, repot them using dry soil, and provide ample sunlight. Water as needed, making sure to water again only when the soil is completely dry.
