Notocactus scopa var. murielii, also known as Parodia scopa var. murielii, is a charming, globular cactus native to Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. This cactus features dark green stems adorned with dense, silvery-white spines and woolly areoles, giving it a fuzzy appearance. In summer, it produces showy, glossy yellow flowers that add a vibrant touch to any collection. Typically, it grows up to 45 cm (18 inches) tall and 6-10 cm (2.4-4 inches) in diameter. Notocactus scopa var. murielii thrives in bright light to partial shade and prefers well-draining soil. It requires regular watering during the growing season but should be watered lightly in winter to prevent root rot. This cactus is suitable for USDA zones 9b to 11 and is not cold-hardy, so it should be protected from frost.
