Notocactus militaris, also known as Parodia ottonis, is a charming cactus species native to southern Brazil. This plant showcases green, globose stems with well-defined ribs adorned with white to red, curved spines. Initially solitary, it tends to offset and form clusters as it matures. Mature plants can reach up to 6 inches in diameter and form large clusters. During the blooming season, it produces vibrant yellow flowers, though occasionally, orange-red blooms may appear. Notocactus militaris thrives in bright, sunny windows, preferring full sun exposure. It requires well-draining soil to prevent root rot and is drought-tolerant, necessitating infrequent watering; ensure the soil dries out completely between waterings. This species is suitable for USDA Hardiness Zones 10 and above.
