Echinopsis melanopotamica, also known as Echinopsis leucantha, is a captivating cactus species native to South America. This plant features a green, globular to short-cylindrical stem with well-defined ribs adorned with clusters of robust spines, appearing darker at the top and a light yellowish-gray everywhere else. Typically, it reaches up to 12 inches (30 cm) in height and 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter. During the blooming season, it produces large, white, funnel-shaped flowers that open at night, adding a touch of elegance to any collection. Echinopsis melanopotamica thrives in full sun exposure and requires well-draining soil to prevent root rot. It is drought-tolerant and should be watered sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. This species prefers warm temperatures and is suitable for USDA Hardiness Zones 9 to 11.
