Echinofossulocactus ochoterenaus, formerly known as Stenocactus ochoterenanus, is a distinctive cactus native to central Mexico. This plant features a globular, light to olive green stem with numerous, slender, white radial spines and four central spines that are longer, rigid, and brownish, growing upward. Typically, it reaches up to 3.1 inches (8 cm) in height and 3.9 to 5.5 inches (10 to 14 cm) in diameter. During the blooming season, it produces small, funnel-shaped flowers that are pale pink with purple central streaks. Echinofossulocactus ochoterenaus thrives in full sun and requires well-draining soil to prevent root rot. It is drought-tolerant and should be watered sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. This species is suitable for USDA Hardiness Zones 10 to 11.
