Aloe erinacea, native to Namibia, is a distinctive succulent that adds a touch of the exotic to any collection. This species features rosettes of deltoid-lanceolate, gray-green to blue-gray leaves, each adorned with black spines along the margins and keel, giving them a spiky appearance reminiscent of a hedgehog. Typically, Aloe erinacea grows in clumps, with individual plants reaching heights of 8 to 12 inches (20 to 30 cm) and spreading up to 16 inches (40 cm) wide. While a slow grower, it thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-draining soil with minimal watering, as it is susceptible to root rot in overly moist conditions. This aloe is suitable for USDA Hardiness Zones 10 to 11, where temperatures do not regularly fall below 30°F (-1°C).
