Pride of Madeira (Echium candicans) is a striking evergreen shrub native to the island of Madeira, celebrated for its towering conical spikes of vivid blue-purple flowers that bloom from late spring through summer. Its silvery-green, lance-shaped leaves form a dense, mounding habit, providing year-round visual interest. Mature plants typically reach 5 to 6 feet in height and can spread 6 to 10 feet wide, making them ideal for coastal gardens, slopes, and xeriscaping. Thriving in full sun and well-drained soils, Pride of Madeira is drought-tolerant once established and requires minimal maintenance. Hardy in USDA zones 9–11, it flourishes in Mediterranean climates and is particularly suited for coastal regions due to its salt and wind tolerance. This fast-growing shrub attracts bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, enhancing biodiversity in your garden. Note: All parts of the plant are toxic if ingested, and handling may cause skin irritation; exercise caution when planting in areas accessible to pets or children.

Please note that the plant may or may not be in bloom when purchased. You will receive a similar or better plant as the one pictured. These are fully rooted plants. Shipping will be via USPS Priority Mail within the United States and its outlying territories ONLY. We do not ship internationally.

All of our plants are shipped bare-root and without their original nursery pot. This is done both to protect the plant and to reduce shipping expenses. We pack our products by hand and take great care to ensure they arrive at their final destination safely. Upon receiving your plants, make sure to remove them from their packaging immediately, repot them using dry soil, and provide ample sunlight. Water as needed, making sure to water again only when the soil is completely dry.
