Fortnight Lily (Dietes iridioides), also known as African Iris, is an evergreen perennial featuring elegant, sword-like green leaves and delicate white flowers accented with yellow and violet markings. It typically forms clumps reaching 2 to 4 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide. This low-maintenance plant thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soils. Blooming from spring through fall, its blossoms appear in cycles, often every two weeks, attracting bees and butterflies. Once established, Fortnight Lily is drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional watering to promote more prolific flowering. Hardy in USDA Zones 8 to 11, it’s an excellent choice for borders, containers, or mass plantings in warm climates.
