One of the largest barrel cacti in cultivation, it can eventually reach up to 7 feet tall and about 3 feet wide when grown in ideal conditions. This slow-growing cactus develops an impressive solitary form that becomes more cylindrical with age, making it a standout specimen for xeriscapes, cactus collections, and drought-tolerant gardens. It thrives in full sun, requires very well-draining soil, and prefers low water once established, with dry conditions during winter. Mature plants produce bright yellow flowers around the crown from late spring through summer, adding seasonal color to their rugged form. Highly adaptable to hot, arid climates, Echinocactus ingens var. grandis is valued for its durability, architectural shape, and long lifespan.
